Project Management

The Facilities Planning and Development (FPD) has been assigned by The University of Kansas administration and the Kansas Secretary of Administration the responsibility for oversight of all design and construction projects under management authority of the Lawrence campus. All KU departments and affiliates are required to submit project requests for FPD to provide feasibility studies, design services or consultant oversight, code compliance, construction management and required approvals for campus development projects.

The FPD Project Management Manual illustrates our commitment to providing excellence in project delivery to our University clients. The manual was developed in collaboration with more than 50 entities within the KU community. It serves as a communication tool to provide a better understanding of the project delivery process and the services that the Office of Facilities, Planning & Development provides. The manual will also serve as a guide for FPD’s project managers to deliver projects with systematic best practice policies and procedures.

FPD follows a well-defined systematic process to ensure successful completion of projects. View the project process summary document (pdf) for an overview of the process and the capital improvement approval process document (pdf) for an overview of the approval timeline.

To help organizations understand the procurement and funding processes related to capital improvement projects, FPD has a number of flowchart documents available by email request.
